Neuromodulators

The overuse of certain facial muscles to smile, squint, or frown can lead to deep expression lines. Abbott Aesthetics offers personalized neuromodulator treatments, such as Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau, to suppress these wrinkles and reverse the signs of aging.

The Root Cause of Dynamic Wrinkles

Dynamic wrinkles are lines and creases that appear on the face when we make facial expressions, such as smiling, frowning, and squinting. They are caused by the overuse of the underlying facial muscles, whereas static wrinkles form when the skin loses elasticity and collagen due to age and sun exposure. When you’re young, dynamic wrinkles only appear when you’re conveying expressions, but over time, they become more permanent. Neuromodulators can soften and reduce these expression lines.

What are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators, also known as neurotoxins, are injectable medications that treat dynamic wrinkles caused by facial expressions. The neuromodulators temporarily block signals from the nerves to the targeted muscles. This temporarily paralyzes the facial muscles and prevents them from forming expression lines, resulting in a youthful and smoother appearance. Neuromodulators are a great option for reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, and cheeks, resulting in a more youthful and relaxed look.

Your Neuromodulator Options

Botox

Botox is the most popular neuromodulator, offering a safe and effective way to reduce wrinkles. Made from a purified form of botulinum toxin, Botox works by temporarily relaxing your facial muscles, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Botox is FDA-approved for correcting forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet.

Dysport

Dysport is an injectable substance composed of abobotulinumtoxinA, a purified form of botulinum toxin type A, which can reduce wrinkles. Dysport is similar to Botox in that it targets wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle contractions but spreads over a larger area. Your medical provider will determine if you’re a better candidate for Dysport.

Jeuveau

Jeuveau, also known as “Newtox,” is a new cosmetic injectable of botulinum toxin type A. It works much like Botox to improve facial wrinkles, but some say it leads to more subtle results, making it suitable for people with early signs of aging. Your medical provider will determine if you’re a better candidate for this injectable.

Xeomin

Xeomin is another popular injectable treatment for wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Similarly to Botox, Xeomin works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. It is specifically used to treat frown lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet around the eyes. Results can be seen within a few days after your treatment session.

Candidates for Neuromodulators:

  • Are at least 18 years of age
  • Have unwanted dynamic wrinkles or want to avoid wrinkles
  • Are in generally good physical and mental health
  • Have realistic expectations from the treatment
  • Don’t have underlying health conditions that preclude treatment

The Neuromodulators Treatment

Your neuromodulator treatment is performed in our private, luxurious treatment rooms. The medical provider will carefully examine your facial skin, measure the prominence of dynamic wrinkles, and select the appropriate neuromodulators — Botox, Dysport, or Jeuveau. The medical provider will cleanse your facial skin, apply a numbing gel, and inject the appropriate units of the chosen neuromodulators into targeted facial muscles. The number of injections will depend on the treatment areas and your goals.

The Neuromodulators Recovery

You can expect mild redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, and lumping sensations around the injection sites for a few days after the treatment. Most of the side effects are mild and dissipate within a few days. You can resume your daily activities and work immediately — no downtime. But you should avoid strenuous workouts for a day or two and keep your head elevated for a few hours after the treatment.

Neuromodulators FAQs

Which is the right neuromodulator for me?

Choosing the right neuromodulator treatment can seem daunting, but your medical provider can help you make the right decision. Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau have all been approved to temporarily smooth wrinkles and lines. Depending on your treatment areas and desired outcome, your medical provider will decide which neuromodulator will be right for you.

How many injections will I need?

The number of injections you’ll need depends on your treatment area and goals. Our goal is to help you achieve natural results as efficiently as possible with the minimum injections, so we’ll carefully assess your areas of concern to determine the optimal treatment plan.

Will my skin look stretched or frozen?

No need to worry! We understand you want to look your best and maintain a natural and relaxed look. That’s why we customize each treatment, ensuring you’re left with a refreshed look without appearing frozen or stretched.

Is the treatment painful?

No. Your neuromodulator treatment won’t be painful because we administer a numbing gel before the treatment. You might feel a little pinch when the needle enters your skin, but the discomfort is minimal.

When will I see the results?

You will start seeing improvements in your skin after 2 to 3 days. But the results will continue improving for a week or two. The final results are usually observed within 2 weeks.

How often do I need to repeat the treatment?

The final results of your treatment may last 3 to 6 months, depending on your lifestyle, treatment areas, and numerous other factors. The treatment results will fade gradually, so you’ll have plenty of time to top-up the injectable to maintain smooth skin.
